Work in progress

sculpture - exhibition

Working as a rural contractor while a young adult activated a life long curiosity about the relationship between landscape and the objects with which it is populated, both natural and manufactured. In particular I am interested in how the nature of those objects determines the experience of the individual with landscape.

Later, a long period working in exhibition and event design and production provided a perfect opportunity to investigate form, material, scale and elements of staging. This period also engaged me in the processes of design, fabrication, logistics, touring and site work.

Working and studying at the same time has always been a good formula for me and I’ve moved through studies in architectural technology, design, art, fine woodworking, and metalworking techniques, along with a range of other subjects related to landscape and environment. The interest in landscape is an abiding one, and it tends to play out in my larger sculptures which are often site specific or use landscape as a source point in their development.

Sculpture is a discipline in which I can put all of that to good use, as well as motivating me to continue learning in order to develop my work.
