Mark McClelland Sculptor

profile

Mark McClelland is a Sydney based artist, designer, creative director and consultant.

Mark’s practice as a sculptor draws from a lifetime of creative experience and observation, starting with his early work as a rural fencing contractor and bush carpenter. During that period of his late teens and early twenties, Mark learned how to improvise with the materials at hand to get things done under relatively difficult circumstances. More importantly, that time cultivated in Mark a way of seeing and interacting with landscape that has remained with him all his life.

Mark  founded the creative practice DesignTroupe, and went on to win multiple awards for design excellence with his teams as the company became one of the most admired practices in its field in the Asian Pacific region. DesignTroupe later became part of GPJ.

A graduate of the University of New England, Sturt School for Wood and Design Centre Enmore, Mark has studied design, art and environmental management and undertaken training under master practitioners in wood and metals. In developing a sculptural practice as his principal means of creative expression, Mark interweaves these experiences with his lifelong interest in the ways in which people respond to landscape and his considerable experience with three dimensional design and making.

Mark McClelland also undertakes, commissions, collaborative projects and consulting work.
