tambour box

Spotted gum and sterling silver - Roll top lid

The tambour is wooden strips fixed edge to edge on fabric. This allows a rolling action, so the whole front of the box rolls open, something like a roll top desk. In this piece I started experimenting with the incorporation of jewellery making techniques, which explains the sterling sliver clasp mechanism and the little silver corners, which I think draw reference from my road dog days, as they are a lot like road case corners.
