of memory
The work is connected to a dream about living in a tumbledown shack in a remote and barren wilderness. The dream was centred in landscape and is related to our capacities for risk and commitment.
of memory responds to these ideas – landscape, our tolerance for risk and our ability to uphold our commitments. The work is spare and discreet. It contains no elements that are not required for its existence. This type of work develops my interest in objects that, while characteristically man made, sit naturally in the landscape. These are sculptures which clearly exhibit an industrial aesthetic and yet exist at one with the environment into which they are placed. They live within the relationship between culture and nature.
of memory is also invested with an interactive and functional purpose –despite its visual delicacy, it is designed to function as a seat. When it is sat upon, the work deflects and springs, delivering a kinetic experience to the viewer/user.
